Mohammed, a buyer from Kuwait specializing in lead-acid battery trading, arrived in Guangzhou with his own list of battery factories to visit. He soon discovered the factories he had selected were mainly focused on lithium-ion batteries — and his sourcing trip had reached a dead end.

A Sourcing Trip at a Dead End
Mohammed, a buyer from Kuwait, specializes in lead-acid battery trading.
Before coming to China, he had already done his own research and prepared a list of battery suppliers to visit during his sourcing trip.
After arriving in Guangzhou, he visited the factories on his list one by one. However, he soon discovered a problem: the factories he had selected were mainly focused on lithium-ion batteries, while his actual requirement was for lead-acid batteries.
The sourcing trip had reached a dead end.
Turning the Trip Around
With the suppliers he had originally identified unable to meet his requirements, Mohammed contacted us during his stay in Guangzhou.
We met with him in person to go through his requirements again, including the battery specifications, technical parameters, quality expectations, and purchasing requirements.
Once we understood exactly what he needed, we used our local supplier network and industry contacts to search for manufacturers specializing in lead-acid batteries.
The Right Supplier — Within Days
Within a few days, we had identified suitable manufacturers and arranged communication between Mohammed and the factories.
We helped both sides clarify the technical specifications, production details, and cooperation terms before moving forward.
The supplier was eventually confirmed and the order was arranged.
What This Case Teaches
For Mohammed, the experience was a reminder that finding suppliers in China is not always as straightforward as searching for a product online or visiting a list of factories.
The factories may produce similar products but serve completely different markets and product categories. Local industry knowledge and direct communication can make a significant difference when the initial supplier research does not lead to the right manufacturers.
Mohammed was satisfied with the result. What had initially looked like a sourcing trip with no suitable suppliers ended with the right manufacturer and a confirmed order.
